After experiencing declining sales of its popular VW Citi model
because of the difficulty of getting proper insurance coverage on the cars,
Volkswagen South Africa has decided to take matters into its own hands and
create a unique and comprehensive insurance package on the car. The insurance
will be valid for all new purchases of the VW Citi.
Volkswagen Citi Golf Insurance Due the the high rate of theft of the Citi Golf, VW had no choice but to introduce its own insurance product.

The VW Citi has been regularly targeted by criminal elements and an usually
high proportion of car thefts and hijackings involve this model, according to
police statistics. As a result, several South African insurance companies
refused to cover the VW Citi or simply required car owners to install
sophisticated protection systems.
Santam instructed all its Citi Golf owning policyholders last year that they
would need to fit their cars with tracking devices if they wanted to continue
being covered, while Hollard simply decided to stop insuring Citis that were
manufactured between 2004 and 2006 as they posed too much of a risk.
At the time, Santam's manager of underwriting, Herman de Meyer said: "Santam
is aware Citi Golf pose a high theft risk."
The new insurance policy, created in partnership with Alexander Forbes
Insurance, offers comprehensive coverage for all new VW Citi purchases. The most
important element of the CitiPlus is that it does not require policyholders to
install expensive tracking devices, as requested by other companies.
In addition, Volkswagen South Africa would be providing policyholders with a
number of excellent perks, such as medical service, motor service, emergency
home service and accident management. The customer would also enjoy benefits
such as free emergency service and referral assistance.
