Frost and Sullivan Healthcare group have announced that they will be hosting
a free webinar (web-based seminar) which will deal with the turbulent
developments in the medical insurance industry in Sub-Saharan Africa. The
seminar will take place on Friday 12 December at 16.00 CAT or 14.00 GMT.
The webinar plans to focus on specific countries and will provide a thorough
explanation of the medical insurance industries in Ghana, Kenya, Malawi,
Tanzania and Zambia. The webinar would be of interest to healthcare providers
and insurance companies, while companies providing medical products that require
reimbursement would also benefit from attending the seminar.
The concept of medical insurance is a relatively new one in most of Africa.
It is basically seen as a means of financing health-care services through an
insurance policy, which would normally be paid out only when the need arises.
There has recently been an increase in awareness of this concept and the
benefits of medical insurance through the introduction of national insurance.
A research analyst for Frost and Sullivan, Tiwonge Mkandawire said: "The
medical insurance industries in African countries is currently in the
introductory to medium growth stage. There is, however, an increasing level of
awareness of the benefits of medical insurance cover among members of the
general public. This is further supported by government efforts to expand
coverage of national health insurance schemes such as the National Health
Insurance Scheme and NHIF in Ghana and Tanzania respectively."
