People urged to check insurance cover before leaving on holiday South Africans can do a number of things to ensure holiday season goes smoothly.

The right insurance cover is good to have all year round, but there is
nothing more frustrating than returning from a vacation to find damage to your
home and insufficient insurance to settle the costs.
"If you want an undisturbed holiday with your family, secure your home and
make sure that there are no gaps in your insurance cover," said the Managing
Director of Alexander Forbes, Gari Dombo.
According to Dombo, there are a number of things that South Africans can do
to ensure that the holiday season goes smoothly.
One of the most important is to ensure that security arrangements are in
place, and - more importantly - in working condition. If an insurance policy
requires an alarm or security doors to cover claims in case of a break in, for
example, these should be checked so as to avoid unnecessary stress.
If South Africans plan to leave home for their holidays, they should make
sure that all their valuables are stored in a safe place and that their
neighbours are aware of their departure.
It is always a good idea to ask someone to come in once in a while in order
to show presence. The simple act of switching lights on and off, removing
newspapers and feeding the animals could serve as a deterrent to thieves who are
always on the lookout for homes left uninhabited for a length of time.
Vacationers should also make sure that minimum damage will be done to their
homes in case of electrical breaks or burst installation pipes. Plugs should be
removed from sinks and freezers emptied.
"While this seems like rather a long check list, getting the right cover in
place and ensuring that your maintenance, security and valuations match your
cover can make the difference between an undisturbed summer break and a holiday
you'd care not to remember," said Dombo.
