Over 1000 actuaries from all over the world will converge on Cape Town
for the International Congress of Actuaries next year.
Next year's annual congress will carry the theme "United in Our Diversity" -
recognizing the multiple fields in the actuarial profession but uniting them
under one umbrella.
"Our challenge is to deliver a program that is diverse, relevant and
stimulating to an audience of actuaries that specialize in fields including
health insurance, life insurance, pensions and social security, and enterprise
risk management," said the president elect of the Actuarial Society of South
Africa, Peter Doyle.
The five day congress will take place from March 8 to 12, 2010, with more
than 90 countries represented.
Many interesting talks are planned, including presentations such as "The
Credit Crunch - A Lesson From Poker History" and "Financial Markets Crisis -
Lessons Learnt and Future Implications."
"Participants will be able to pick and choose from more than 200
presentations to be delivered during 90 sessions," promised Doyle.
The congress is being organized by the International Actuarial Association,
in conjunction with the Actuarial Society of South Africa - the actuarial
representative of the host country.
Trevor Manuel, the minister who heads the National Planning Commission, will
be keynote speaker for the congress.
