If you are a landlord - in other words you own a house or property that you
rent out - there are various types of insurance that you can take out to protect
your property. This would also depend on how you have rented out your property -
specifically furnished or unfurnished.
If you have rented it out unfurnished, then all you really need is buildings
insurance, as the contents are owned by the tenant. However, if you have rented
it out furnished, then you'll need to cover certain of the contents as well -
especially as there are other people using them who may not treat them with the
same care that you would.
There are also additional insurance options that you may want to consider. As
you are responsible for the upkeep of the property (fixing plumbing that breaks
etc), you may want to take out insurance against this sort of cost.
You may also especially want to take out legal cover, so that you can pay for
legal expenses that may arise should you need to sue your tenants or rent or
wilful damage to the property.
