Immediately into the new year, Old Mutual Plc, the London listed but
South African based insurance and financial group announced the appointment of a
new group chairman.
Patrick O'Sullivan will now head the group, following the retirement of Chris
Collins from the board at the end of 2009.
O'Sullivan brings with him plenty of experience in the insurance and
financial industries.
In April of last year, he retired from his position as vice chairman of
Zurich Financial Services after being with the group for 11 years.
In this capacity, O'Sullivan dealt with the group's international ventures,
including operations in the South African market.
"Patrick brings with him considerable experience of international financial
services groups and restructuring," said the Chief Executive Officer of Old
Mutual Plc, Julian Roberts. "I look forward to his counsel and contribution to
the development of the group and building long germ shareholder value."
In addition to his job at Zurich Financial Services, O'Sullivan also served
as a non executive director of the Man Group and the Bank of Ireland.
This is Old Mutual's second big management change in less than six months.
Last year, the group appointed Kuseni Dlamini as head of Old Mutual South
Africa, after he left his lucrative job as boss of Anglo American South Africa.
Dlamini served with Anglo American for 13 years and worked with top names in
the industry such as De Beers and the Richards Bay Coal Terminal.
