Alexander Forbes gives tips on household insurance over holiday season They advice to take out All Risk cover that covers items taken on holiday.

Before we know it, the holiday season will be upon on us, and millions of South Africans will be leaving their homes to take their summer vacations.
However, while holidays can be fun, there is always that niggling thought at the back of your head about the safety of the home you left behind.
As noted by the MD of Alexander Forbes Insurance, Gari Dombo: "Even if you get a responsible family member or an old and trusted friend to stay at your house, there could still be a break in, the geyser could burst, the mains could leak or a fire could start."
Dombo advises that one of the most important things that could give you peace of mind is having reliable insurance that will respond to any emergency around the clock.
It may be a good idea to pay a little extra on the extension of an insurance policy - such as to provide a security guard to watch a property while the owners are away - says Dombo.
Dombo also reminded consumers that some insurance companies may not pay out on damage to a home that has been left uninhabited for a length of time.
He advised policy holders to "check with your insurer since some insurers are more strict than others on the period for which they are prepared to extend cover for an unattended home."
Alexander Forbes also reminded South Africans about other products that may be worth considering.
These include All Risks policies which essentially cover all possessions that policy holders take on their vacation anywhere around the world.
Consumers should also take out insurance that extends to driving across the border of South Africa, as many car insurance policies only cover events within the country's borders.
